Top 10 Skills for Workers in the Future of Jobs

The World Economic Forum has identified the top 10 skills that are crucial for workers as jobs undergo a significant transformation. The changes are due to a variety of factors, including technological advancements and climate change, which could potentially eliminate or create millions of job roles in the coming years. Therefore, workers must have the skills to navigate through these changes and adapt to new job requirements.

According to the WEF's latest "Future of Jobs" report, analytical and creative thinking skills are currently the most important skills that companies expect from their workers. Self-efficacy skills, including being resilient, flexible, agile, motivated, self-aware, curious and committed to lifelong learning, complete the top five.

The report recognises that workers' ability to adapt to disrupted workplaces is of great importance. Only one technology-related skill, technological literacy, makes it into the top 10 at sixth place, while the ability to understand and work with AI and big data ranks 15th.

The report notes that creative thinking is increasing in importance relative to analytical thinking as workplace tasks become increasingly automated. Emerging skills, including creative thinking, analytical thinking, and technological literacy, are expected to be the most in demand. Employers estimate that 44% of workers' skills will be disrupted in the next five years.

Soft skills such as curiosity and lifelong learning, resilience, flexibility and agility are also set to become increasingly vital for workers. Meanwhile, physical skills may be less important in the future, as sizable minorities of companies judge reading, writing and mathematics, global citizenship, sensory-processing abilities, and manual dexterity, endurance and precision to be of declining importance for their workers.

In summary, the top 10 most important skills for workers this year, according to the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs report are: analytical thinking, creative thinking, resilience, flexibility, and agility, motivation and self-awareness, curiosity and lifelong learning, technological literacy, dependability and attention to detail, empathy and active listening, leadership and social influence, and quality control.
