Abdulrazaq Folorunsho Gidado, the Federal Commissioner NPC for Kwara State, has stated that the indefinite postponement of the 2023 population census in Nigeria is in the best interest of the nation. Gidado made this disclosure during his appearance on the Sobi FM radio program 'Home Front Programme' in Ilorin on Wednesday.


According to Gidado, the commission has been directed to wait for the incoming administration to negotiate the timing and procedures for conducting the census in the country. He emphasized that the commission is fully prepared to carry out the census once the arrangements have been finalized.


In terms of preparations, Gidado highlighted that the commission has decided to digitize the census process to ensure fairness and equality among all citizens. This move is aimed at eliminating biases and ensuring accurate data collection.


Gidado further appealed to the public to support the commission in fulfilling its crucial responsibility for the growth and development of the nation. He stressed the importance of the census in providing valuable information for effective planning and resource allocation.


While the postponement may cause some disappointment, the decision to delay the census is based on careful considerations and the desire to conduct a comprehensive and reliable exercise. The Federal Commissioner NPC assures the Nigerian people that the commission is committed to executing a successful census once the appropriate time is determined.
