Purpose of the Role:
The radiographer operates diagnostic and therapeutic equipment to examine and treat patients for illness, diseases, or injury. They use medical equipment such as Conventional X-ray Machines (X-RAY), Computed Tomography (CT) machines, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines, Ultrasound (USS) machines, Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) machines, Mammography (Mammo) machines, Fluoroscopy machines, C-ARM machines, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (CATHLAB) machines, Brachytherapy machines, Cobalt-60 and Linear Accelerator machines, etc., to examine patients for illness, diseases, or injury.
Key Performance Areas:
1. Radiation safety of patients, staff, and the general public.
2. Performing diagnostic medical imaging and acquiring diagnostic images.
3. Positioning patients and equipment for examinations, ensuring patient comfort.
4. Identifying patients and explaining procedures or examinations.
5. Organizing work schedules and ensuring proper patient scheduling.
6. Requisitioning departmental supplies and monitoring inventory.
7. Documenting examinations and procedures accurately.
8. Counselling patients before and after procedures.
9. Administering radiographic contrast media/agents when necessary.
10. Keeping equipment log, scheduling maintenance and repairs.
11. Training radiography students on clinical posting.
12. Conducting quality control and assurance tests for equipment.
13. Collaborating with healthcare team members, including nurses, physicians, and radiologists.
14. Archiving and backing up medical images in the PACS system.
Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor of Medical Radiography and Radiological Sciences.
- Valid Practicing License.
